It's interesting but not surprising to see Vientiane, the capital of Laos up there at number 29 on the list of Most Expensive Cities in Asia between Bangkok and Hanoi. Thanks in part to the NGO culture and also to inflation a lot of things are more expensive than in Bangkok. It probably fdoesn't help that Laos is land-locked and so many things need to be shipped in.

Hey John, thanks for the Laos pics they were awesome...and a complete contrast to where I'm living now...Chihuahua Mexico...hot desert...so it's always refreshing to see some green. Me and my girlfriend are moving to a beach area soon though. Anyway, this list of expensive cities has few surprises but on the other hand, I think they take into account more of the businessman lifestyle when they assess these cities. For example, international schools for their children, furnished apartments, and eating at fancy restaurants. They probably don't consider a guy eating 10 cent noodles, and drinking 20 cent beer while sitting in his studio apartment listening to the radio. Oh, I forgot...the wobbly fan overhead...hmm I just described my first year in Bangkok...haha. That was great...anyway, cheers John!
